Day 18: 50 day makeup challenge

**No I have not given up up on this yet!

Day 18: What’s your favorite night time look?

image

Check out my birthday makeup look: here. This is a typical example of how I do my makeup for night time using these products:

Face: I like to turn to a full coverage foundation for night time. I am currently using the Boots No7 moose foundation from Target. It’s so creamy and covers everything like a dream. I don’t even need concealer!

Checks: I love Milani blushes! Red Vino has a nice golden swirl and goes well with my skin tone.

Lips: A lip tar, or long lasting lipstick is a must when going out. I like deep berry colors or a classic red.

Eyes: I always turn to my Lorac Pro. It has the perfect blend of matte and shimmer, and such a great selection of color. So no matter how heavy or light I want my eyes this palette has everything I need. My Lorac Pro review: here.

False lashes are always a must when going out. I know i’ve struggled putting fake lashes on for a long time but here are a few tips that I use:

1. Make sure they are the right length. Measure the lash to your lash line and cut off the excess.

2. Get good glue. Duo lash glue is the best. Make sure it is applied evenly and wait for it to get tacky.

3. I use a hand held mirror while looking down at it. I then line the eyelash with my lash line.

4. Patience and practice. I still struggle sometimes with eyelashes, but keep practicing, look up techniques on youtube, and it will be worth it!

Lip Tars

I’ve been lusting over these OCC lip tars for so long and I finally went into Sephora and got a good deal buy purchasing a set. $49 for a set of 5 and a their lip brush. Compared to one lip tar for $18. Lip tars are highly pigmented, long lasting lip stains that are vegan and cruelty free. They can also be used as a cheek stain.

image

Left to right swatches: Lydia, Kava Kava, Hoochie, Pretty, and Iced.
On the OCC website they have an extensive selection of colors and you can mix colors together to make any custom lip color you want.

image

You seriously need just one tiny dot to fill in your lips. If you use too much it will feather and bleed.

image

A more affordable Sleek Makup version (a UK brand known for their eye shadow palettes, that now ships to the U.S). $6 .27 fl oz vs. OCC’s $18 .33 fl oz As you can see in the picture below one of the downsides to lip tars is that since they are so pigmented there is a bit separation at times. As long as the tubes are alternated once in a while when stored, this shouldn’t be a problem.

image

Swatches left to right: Minx and Port. $6.49

Ulta Haul

ULTA is having a 40% off sale in store and online. (post here) I went into my local ULTA and grabbed some products i’ve been wanting.

image

Revlon Nearly Naked foundation in 180 medium beige and powder in 030 medium. Youtuber’s have been raving about the powder, and have compared the foundation to Urban Decay’s NAKED skin foundation. Beauty guru itsjudytime does a great comparison review here.

I have a sample of U.D’s version and they are quite similar.
Revlon 1fl oz $9.99 sale:$5.99 vs. Urban Decay 1fl oz $39.
What’s great about a drugstore dupe is that you can always find sales at drugstores.

image

The NYX matte bronzer in deep tan could be a great alternative to my MAC’s mineralize skin finish in Give Me Sun that I got in a previous post.
NYX $9 sale: $5.39 for 9.5g vs. MAC $30 for 10g of product
They aren’t exact dupes (MAC’s is slightly more orange) but they are both great matte bronzers.

image

image

I also got two new Revlon lip butters in berry smoothie & raspberry pie and two new Revlon kissable balm stains in sweetheart valentine & crush to add to my collection. (Check out my previous post.)

What I love about lip butters is that for the days where I just want something on my lips that provides moisture, good color pay off, and take no time to apply I turn to these guys. The kissable balm stains are also a great product with all of the above criteria with the addition of a stain. The crayon tip makes it perfect for application and great for on the go.
Lip Butters: $7.49 sale: $4.49
Kissable balm stains:  $8.99 sale: $5.39

Swatches left to right: Berry smoothie, Raspberry Pie, Sweetheart Valentine, and Crush

A few other swatches from my Revlon collection including a couple Revlon matte lipsticks which are also on sale for $4.19 originally $6.99.

Swatches left to right: Smitten, Adore, Lovesick, Stormy Pink, and Really Red.

Meet Matt(e) Nude.

I got my order for the meet matt(e) nude palette from The Balm haute look sale *post here* and I love it! It is much larger, has allot more product than the orginal, and the formula is much better. The new meet matt(e) nude is a better value for 25.5g of product: $42 ($21 on the hautelook sale), vs. the original meet matt(e) is $34.50 ($17 on the hautelook sale).

Side by side next to the original meet matt(e):

If you love matte colors I really suggest this palette! Emily Noel from beauty broadcast on youtube also has a great review on this palette in my post here. I think the original retail price is still a good buy for what you get. I will try to post if there is another sale happening. You have to join haute look (click here) to participate in the sales. Hope this was informative and helpful!

Nail polish obsession

These polishes are from Zoyas try 3 free promotion (over now). I have reviewed these polishes many times and they never let me down. They don’t contain harsh smelling chemicals and they are always opaque.

image

Maisie is a really cool 3d holographic polish that you can use as a cool top coat.

image

Song is the most beautiful electric blue. I love this, it’s so fun and I love blue! It is really pretty with the Maisie polish on top.

image

Daul is an fun purple with gold glitter mixed in. I love this for a night out.

image

Yasmeen a gorgeous deep purple. So opaque and one of my favorites.

image

Nova. I love how unique this polish is! It’s a reddish, purple, but it’s glittery as well. Very glam!

image

Aurora is a more purple than Nova. A very fun polish! I am so happy with all these polishes and all i paid was shipping!

image

I found these Material girl polishes at Marshalls and thought they looked allot like Butter London polishes. Material girl is a brand by Madonna. I looked up an article showing how her nail polish line is basically a replication of Butter London. They were only $2 each so I decided to give them a try. They are very pretty colors, and go on opaque after 2-3 coats.

image

Wild Flower layered over a variety of bases. My thumb is the polish alone without a base. (sorry it’s blurry)

image

Psychedelic. Very unique and I think the name says it all.

image

Harlequin. Totally me. Enough said.

image

The last two are glitter polishes from Urban Outfitters. I’ve also raved about these polishes in a past post with their Deborah Lippmann dupes. They are always 2 for $8 and are always opaque.

image

Unicorn. I love how all the glitters reflect different colors! This is such a pretty top coat!

image

Spicy is such a sparse/ large chunky glitter. It’s kind of awkward to apply. I’m not sure how to wear this yet.

image

I hope these swatches helped feed your nail polish addiction! What polishes have you been loving lately? Let me know!

Day 17: 50 day makeup challenge.

Day 17: Favorite makeup artist?

Kevyn Aucoin

image

He was such an incredible talent and very missed by the makeup industry. In Day 2 of this makeup challenge I mentioned how I used his book face forward when I started experimenting with makeup. His techniques and transformations in that book were one of the reasons I became so enthusiastic about makeup. The way he was able to enhance a persons features without surgery, just makeup to make them look so different was amazing.
